Careful what you wish for

5 Miles - 41:25

So I heard it was supposed to rain today, which I was all excited about, becasue that meant it was warm enough to rain. Well, I got what I wished for, it was raining when I went out to run, I think it was just a few degrees warm enough to rain. So cold rain, which was melting all the snow, so I was jumping through puddles. My shoes were about 5 lbs heavier each.

I was able to get good footing though, so no slipping and slidding, and was able to go 5 miles without any issues. I thought about going 6, but the path might have been a little too wet, I'll see how it looks tomorrow.

Pretty Sore Today

4 Miles - 37:45

I think all that slipping and sliding that I have been doing on the icy path has taken a toll on my leg muscles, I was sore today. It also snowed last night, so it was a bit warmer, but I was having a hard time pushing off. I did use some vaseline today to help with the chafing, felt much better. I also started today with drinking chocolate milk after my runs, I have been reading that it has a good combo of carbs, protein and fat to help you recover quicker. We shall see. Might take tomorrow off, and then run three straight days before I head to Chicago.

Better Yet

4 Miles - 33:32

I think it was colder today than yesterday, but it did not snow, so the path was still clear. This chafing thing is really getting to me though.

More Chilly Running

I think it was 15 degress today, and windy. Did the same 4 mile route, I think this cold weather is starting to make me chaf though, it is getting a little uncomfortable. The sidwalks were clear today though, so I was able to get good footing which helps, especially on those hills.

Winter Wonderland

it was cold and snowy today, but running felt good. My calves and quads hurt a lot from trying to get tracking and pushing off and slipping, and all the uneven turain. Just a few more months and no snow.

3 Miles here in Louisville

On the treadmill that is. It is a little chilly here, just like everywhere else, so I took the easy way out today on the treadmill. Think I could have gome at least 4, but man the treadmill is boring, I was watching Batman Returns, but it was still boring. Back to the road on Wednesday when I get back to Michigan.

Took it east today

Ran a little easier today for my 4 miles, around the 8:45 mile time. Piece of cake. It's still cold though.

Pushing it again

Pushed it again today, ran about the same rate, 7:45 miles, but I ran a little more upright. My back felt much better today, and my legs felt great too.

Pushing Myself a Little

I wanted to push myself today and see how I would feel running a little faster for my 4 miles today. Felt pretty good, my back hurt a little bit afterwards, I think I was leaning forward a little too much. I'll change he way I run next time. I ran it at around 7:45 miles, which is a lot faster then I have been running.

Mis-Judged the Weather

Went out in shorts today, it felt pretty warm when I left work, and I think it was. I started out on my run, and about 2 minutes into it, it started to snow. THat's when I realized it was a little chillier that I had estimated. Oh, and sinse there was no snow on the ground, I ran my old 4 mile route.

So after a bit of running in the snow, the wind picked up, a lot. It was going with me though, so not bad. Then I got to about the 2.5 mile point, ice pellets, coming almost parallel with the ground, right at my face, pelting me in the eyes. It sucked.

My legs also felt like crap again. My lower legs were so tight, and they were cramping up, and I couldn't get comfortable running. I need to find my old gate, pace, stride...something, or this is going to be a rough year of running.

4 Miles in the Rain

It was raining today, which wasn't bad, becasue that meant it was warm, and that helped to melt the snow. So my new path had no snow, and I worn just shorts, a weather guard top and a hat. It was great, I also had my new Sony headphones which worked out great. My knee felt much better, my legs felt really tight though, especially my lower legs, maybe it was the lack of sleep. Not sure.

A little sore, maybe the change in climate

I was sore this morning, my knees hurt, not the hurt I have been having, just joint pains, something new for me. I ran 4 miles, kind of fast too, maybe that was part of it. The snow is melting though, so that was nice. I think I will take Monday off and see how my knees feel on Tuesday.

It's Chilly in Michigan

4 Miles in Michigan today, I took a different path, I went on a more residential route around a different block. I think I like that a lot better, there was a little snow and ice, but I wasn't high stepping through anything. But it was cold. It's great to be back.

Hiking again today

No running today, went on another beautiful hiking in Marin County North of San Fran. It was a 7.3 mile hike that followed a river down to Stinson beach, and then went back up the nearby mountain, which was pretty steep, but beautiful. Then in and out of grasslands and forests with great views of the ocean. The weather was great, about 50 degrees, hardly any wind. A good way to build up and appatite for the New Years feasting that will be taking place tonight.

5 in Sonoma Valley

All I can say is beautiful...................and hilly.............but beautiful. I ran 5 miles today out at my aunts vineyard and man it was beautiful. It was also very hilly, I was almost done for at the end of my run, of which the last mile was all up hill, kinda steep as well. My legs feel pretty good after all the running I have been doing in the last couple of weeks, hopefully this continues.

7 beautiful miles in San Fran, 3 of them out of necessity

Started out today planning on walking to the Golden Gate Park like I had done on Tursday, and then run 4 miles in the park. Thursday I was all over the place and had to back track a few times. So today I looked at a map and found a more direct route that would get me my 4 miles without stopping and starting.

Things were going well, I felt great, even after the long hike yesterday, the ground was moving smoothly under my feet. I was enjoying the sights as I was running. Out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimps of the Japanese Garden in the Park. I thought it might be cool to run by that on the way back. So when I made my return trip, I hung a right towards the Garden. I have been there before, but it was neat to see it again. As I ran by, I noticed that I couldn't exit that area in the direction I wanted to go. So I had to run along some fencing until I could get through.

Now I entered the park from the East, and I thought I was till traveling West back towards when I came from. Turn out I was going South, and when I exited the park, I didn't recornize where I was, but I figured I was just north of the street I came in on, so I hung a right, when sent me East, opposite of where I wanted to go. As I ran and ran, not seeing the street I came in on, I noticed that the streets were in the teens, and I knew that 17th street ran into Belvedere which is where I wanted to be. So I hung a left on that, which took me south again.

My reasoning was sound, but not knowing that I was on the wrong side of the park is what got me. So I kept running and running, and 17th was uphill, exactly what this picture looks like. Block after block of uphill running, I finally had to walk until I got to the top, and realized I was in trouble. Luckily, and nice young woman was able to give me directions back, after informing me that I was no where near where I wanted to be. So it was quite a run back, but I did notice that while I was running and not knowing where I was, it was nice, becasue I wasn't paying attention to the running, how tired I was, but just trying to figure out where I was. And I did get to see parts of the city I have never seen before.

No Running Today, Just Hiking

Went Hiking today in the Mount Tamalpais area. It was about a 6.5 Mile hike, beautiful scenery, the best was the 30 foot waterfall you see here. Lots of up and down on this trip, and rocky paths to navigate. I was also wearing some shoes I had just bought yesterday, so they were not broken in yet. It was very foggy today up in the mountains, as you can see, so a lot of the views that you normally get were unavailable, but I think it made the trips though the woods that much better.........mystic almost.

I was going to run when I got back, but it was a pretty strenuous hike, and my legs and feet were pretty sore when I got done, so I think I will run tomorrow morning before we go hiking again. There are so many great places to hike out here, and a lot of waterfalls to see, which are my favorite. This is going to be a great trip.

3.75 Miles, in Cali

Ok, so running in shorts and a shirt might have been a pipe dream of mine. It has been around 50 degrees here, however, when I went for my run this morning, it was 38. So I was wearing about the same outfit I wear when in Michigan :-(. No snow to high step through was the big plus, and the scenery was much better. I walked down the to Golden Gate Park and started my run there. Didn't really know where I was going, took a few trails that I had to back-track on, but it was a good run. Oh, I did forget my gloves, so my hands were chilly. When I got done in the park I was at about 3.25 miles, so I ran back to my aunts place, which is all up hill. That part was rough, great workout though.

4 Miles after the big snow storm

Yeah, it snowed a lot last night, so the path was rough, but I hear it's good for the form, and it definatly is building my leg muscles. This is the last run I will make in Michigan for a while. Next run, no gloves, no hat, just shorts and a warm shirt................in Cali.

2 MIles in Detroit

Went for a run this morning when I got to my sisters in Belleville before they got home. It was chilly, but I did get to run on the road, so no snow. I ran a little too fast, being on the road and got tired pretty quick, and it was the first thing I did that day which is never good for me, so it was a struggle.
