Little Longer Today

2.25 Miles Easy - 20:00 Minutes - 8:55 Pace

Planned on 2 miles today, but around 1.75 miles, the treadmill stopped for no reason, and said to contact a technician....so I quick ran down and jumped on another one. Not wanting to start right back up at speed, I gave myself an extra quarter mile to ramp back up.

Knee is a bit sore

2 Miles Easy - 18:00 - 9:00 Pace

Well, my knee was a bit sore today, and I knew it would be. Was at my sisters and played some Wii, and I could tell it was going to hurt while I was playing. Especially the baseball and boxing. There is a little bit of that side to side motion like ping pong. But the run went well, so I am still hopeful for a full recovery. Looking forward to getting back to 15 mile easy runs, tempo runs and intervals :-)

A Couple More Miles

2 Miles Easy - 18:00 - 9:00 Pace

Another easy run, I think after the holidays I will test my knee a little more, maybe a 3 mile day, see how it goes. I also have to prep for running in Cali when I am out there. I haven't run outdoors yet during my "comeback", or on anything like the hills of San Fran.

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

2 Miles

2 Miles Easy - 18:00 - 9:00 Pace

Easy run today, no lifting or abs, just running. Felt good.

Wednesday, December 16, 2009

Back to Back 2 Miles Runs

2 Miles Easy - 18:00 - 9:00 Pace

Another good run, felt great, knee wise, still getting my running groove back, I'll put one more mile in this week, then rest for a bit.

Monday, December 14, 2009

More Miles

2 Miles Easy - 17:45 - 8:42 Pace

Couple more miles today, felt really good, getting a little excited about being healed....but still taking it slowly

Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Little Longer Than Planned

1.5 Miles East - 13:13 - 8:49 Pace

Feeling good got the best of me today....that and I Robot being on the tv on the treadmill. Today was a 1 mile day, and I just ran a little longer so I could see a good action sequence in the movie. Still feeling good, surely it will be 1 mile on Saturday.

Monday, December 7, 2009

2 More Slow Miles

2 Miles Easy - 18:00 - 9:00 Pace

I think easing back into running was a good idea, I don't seem to have any lingering effects from my knee injury.....at 2 miles that is, and I feel pretty good. Next week, assuming the rest of this week goes well, I think I will do two days at two miles, and one at one, see how that treats me. Hopefully by spring, I will be up to a much higher total miles, and long mile day, and I can start racing :-)

Saturday, December 5, 2009

Knee is a non-factor right now

1 Mile Easy - 9:00- 9:00 - Pa

Another slow, short run today, but I am feeling really good....knee wise. Still struggling with breathing and muscle pain and all that, but I don't really even think about my knee when I run. Still going to take it really slow though

Thursday, December 3, 2009

Late Night Running

1 Mile - 9:00 - 9:00 Pace

Ok, not that late, it was about 7:45 when I got on the treadmill. I took a trip to Indiana today to see a customer, and got back later than expected. Again, felt good, little soreness everywhere, but no issues......maybe a three mile day next week....we shall see.

Monday, November 30, 2009

More Miles

2 Miles Easy - 17:12 - 8:36 Pace

My legs were sore today from the get go, not sure what from, all the biking????? Other than that, I still struggle with breathing, part of that might be, as I discovered, I have been putting the treadmill on an 8 min/mile pace the last half of my runs, which is my pre-injury easy training speed, need to kick that back a little and relax more on these runs.

Saturday, November 28, 2009

Running

1 Mile Easy - 8:47 - 8:47 Pace

Another mile, not to bad, little soreness again, but nothing alarming.

Thursday, November 26, 2009

Little Sore

1 Mile Easy - 8:35 - 8:35 Pace

Little sore today, didn't have any major pain, just a little tenderness. Oh, and reassuring myself I am not a morning workout person, felt awful today, lifting, running and biking....all of it.

Monday, November 23, 2009

Feeling OK

2 Miles Easy - 17:10 - 8:35 Pace

Felt ok today, my knee is hurting a little, actually both are, and my hip. Still cannot tell if I am just having getting back into running pains, or if my knee is still bad...keep on running

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Good Run Today

1 Mile Easy - 8:30 - 8:30 Pace

Felt really good today during my run, no pain, the belt was moving easily under my feet...that feeling is why I love running.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Hmm

1 Mile Easy - 8:50 - 8:50 Pace

Had a little pain today before, and after running, which has me a little nervous.

Monday, November 16, 2009

2 Miles....Yippie

2 Miles Easy - 17:25 - 8:42 Pace

Had a little pain in both knees the first mile, but the second mile was a breeze...looking forward to next Monday's 2 miler

Friday, November 13, 2009

Miles

1 Mile Easy - 8:51 - 8:51 Pace

Another easy mile, feeling good still, I think I will try two miles on Monday.

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

Feeling Better

1 Mile Easy - 8:52 - 8:52 Pace

Felt really good today, no little pains, no awkward feelings about my body movements.

Monday, November 9, 2009

Another SHort Run

1 Mile Easy - 8:55 - 8:55 Pace

Easy run today, still dong three miles this week, maybe 4 next week.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

3 miles this week...new record...

1 Mile Easy - 8:55 - 8:55 Pace

Still feeling good, ran a little faster today. I'll do another three miles next week, then maybe try 4 the following

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Still Feeling Good

1 Mile Easy - 9:00 - 9:00 Pace

Felt good again today.

Monday, November 2, 2009

Day Three

1 Mile Easy - 8:35 - 8:35 Pace

Still no pain, but that is how it went last time. Well, again, I shouldn't say no pain, there is still the pain of getting back into running. Wednesday I'll give it another shot.

Friday, October 30, 2009

Day Two

1 Mile Easy - 8:41 - 8:41 Pace

2nd mile on comeback number 3 today. Again, I felt good, a little out of sync, but my knee felt good. My quads on the other hand need to get back with the program, very sore today....and the usual hips and back a little sore, not used to the bouncing. It will come back to me. If this works, I have been reading a lot of books and article about training less and still running marathons. Just having one long day, a tempo day and a speed day, three days of running in a week, and that can get you there. I think I will surely give this a try, if my knee is ok, given my history of breaking.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Enough Waiting Already

1 Mile Easy - 8:30 Minutes - 8:30 Pace

Well, it is almost to the point where I have no choice left but to go under the knife, so before I go that direction, I am going to give it one more try to see if it has healed. Today was the first day of round 3, felr ok, but it did last time as well. Try again Thursday.

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Back of Shelf

I have been told to cool it again for another 3 months......So, back to biking at the gym, I think I am going to start lifting weights again, and I might break out my mountian bike again.

So, talk to you in 3 months.

Monday, July 27, 2009

Another Mini Run

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
1 Mile Easy - 7:21 - 7:21 Pace

Another jog though the neighborhood today, actually, it was faster than a jog, but still pretty easy, other than the heavy breathing and painful muscles. Knee felt ok though.

Saturday, July 25, 2009

Better

1 Mile Easy - 7:73 - 7:43 Pace

Tried the sidewalk again today, knee felt a lot better, my body was a little sore because it was a first thing in the morning run, but that's it. I am going to avoid the treadmill for a while, see how it goes.

Monday, July 20, 2009

3 Treadmill Miles

3 Miles Easy - 24:00 - 8:00 Pace

Treadmill again today, not sure why, I went to the gym to do abs, got to excited about running 3 miles, so I skipped the abs and jumped right on the treadmill. I was planning on running outside. It felt good, little twinge in my knee to start, but after that it was fine. The treadmill I was on however, had a touch screen issue, so when I was done, it took me about 1 minute to finally slow the belt down, guess I could have just stepped off the belt, but I didn't think of it then.

Now onto running on the treadmill, my knee is a little sore tonight, didn't hurt at all running outside. When my knee started hurting, I had just spent the entire winter training for a marathon on the treadmill, and had only run outside twice. I know I run a little different, wonder if that is my issue.

I will be in Atlanta starting Wednesday night, coming back Friday, I think I will take the rest of the weekdays off of running, one to let me knee rest, and two to stay off the treadmill, then do a mile on Saturday.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

Running in the Rain

1 Mile Easy - 7:37 - 7:37 Pace

Got rained on today.....and loved it. I knew I missed running, but had no idea how much I missed it.

Saturday, July 18, 2009

2 Miles

2 Miles Easy - 15:46 - 7:52 Pace

Got up and decided to run 2 miles today, did a little stretching, and out the door I went. The run felt good, no issues with the knee, and it was nice to be out and running. 2 miles was a bit much for my out of shape lungs and body, but it was a good feeling to be in that kind of pain again, looking forward to running tomorrow.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

Treadmill Time

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
1 Miles Easy - 7:30 - 7:30 Pace

Ran at the gym again today, trying to figure out what it is that makes my knee hurt. Went at a pretty good pace, worked up a great sweat, and felt good again. Figured out I was slacking a little in abs class, I think my body had learned how to shortcut some of the exercises, and i was making it too easy....fixed that.....ouch

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

First Run on the Sidewalks

0.6 Miles Easy - 4:00 - 7:06 Pace
0.51 Miles Easy - 3:37 - 7:06 Pace

I am guessing at the first 0.6 miles, my watch apparently had not gotten a signal yet, so I had no idea how far or fast I was going, but based it on running the same pace the second half.

But yeah, on the sidewalk, I got excited again and was clipping along at a good pace, almost 7 minute miles. Felt really good again, I was favoring my right side quite a bit, but I think that will go away. Anywho, I am not sore tonight like I was yesterday, I wonder if it is the biking that is doing it to me.

Monday, July 13, 2009

A Little Sore

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
1 Miles Easy - 9:00 - 9:00 Pace
20 Minutes Exercise Bike

Ok, so I checked out the treadmill today, my knee was kinda sore all day, but once I started running, I felt great. Problem is, it is sore now, and is starting to remind me of how it used to feel when I was having issues. I think I am going to lay off the biking for a bit, and see what that does for me.

Thursday, July 9, 2009

Another Mile Bites the Dust

1.07 Miles Easy - 8:19 - 7:45 Pace

I was thinking that the biking was warming me up and getting me going for running, allowing me to run faster, but apparently it was slowing me down. Today was a breeze, well, I was still winded, but it wasn't bad. I think I need to get off the soccer field and onto a more level surface, lots of ankle twisting, which can't be great for my knee either. Have little pain in my knee, but not sure what it is, it's more of just an annoyance, and not necessarily in the bad spot.

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Working up a Sweat

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Exercise Bike - 20 Minutes
1.04 Miles Easy - 8:23 - 8:01 Pace

Another beautiful day in Grand Rapids today. Got a really good sweat going during abs and biking. Abs was tough because the woman running it was not doing the exercises with us for some reason, but that made her cadence really fast. so we were pumping through them quickly. Then on the bike I started at about 80 RPM, and ended at about 115 RPM....good sweat.

I think the fast biking may have been why I had a little pain in my right knee, right in the last place I want to feel it as I started my run. It went away about half way into the mile, but something to pay attention to, keep my speeds down on the bike, and see how it goes.

Other than that, running is going well.

Monday, July 6, 2009

Need to retrain myself with pacing

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Exercise Bike - 20 Minutes
1.01 Miles Easy - 7:50 - 7:44 Pace

Abs felt good, biking felt good, running felt great. However, I was visited by an old friends of mine, that guy that just takes off and runs as fast as he can, not worrying about what pace I should be running. Yeah, so 7:44 was probably a little quick for my pace at this stage in my comeback, still, I did feel good. It just reminded me of how hard it was to curb my natural instinct to get the runs over with as quickly as I could. Shouldn't take me a year this time to relearn pacing, I am, in fact, a little more knowledgeable of a runner than I was back then.

Oh yeah, and have I mentioned, I am out of shape :-)

Sunday, July 5, 2009

Oops, Forgot My Watch

10 Laps around soccer field
60 Minutes exercise bike

Forgot my watch today so I have no idea how far or how long I ran, but I still feel good. My knee did ache a bit after an hour on the bike, actually both did, but I think that is just from inactivity. I'll go a little easier on the bike tomorrow, and bring my watch.

Saturday, July 4, 2009

One More Mile

1.01 Miles Easy - 8:13 Minutes - 8:05 Pace

Another mile on the soccer field today, again, knee felt fine, I am getting back to my heel to toe style running, still feels good though. I went at a quicker pace today, closer to where my easy run pace before I injured myself. Think I will stay at the mile distance for another week, on the soccer field. Still unsure about the knee, it hurt Thursday after playing ping pong for crying out load, and was a little sore yesterday. Might be that side thrusting I get with ping pong.....

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Easy Does It

1 Mile Easy - 8:14 Minutes - 8:14 Pace

Ran again today at the soccer field. Again, I am really out of shape, and my muscles are getting a rude awakening. I noticed some tightness in most muscles, just from that 0.6 miles. But, again I ran with no pain, and it is pretty tricky terrain. I am taking tomorrow off, then another mile when I am in Chicago.

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Guess Who's Back

0.60 Miles Easy - 4:58 Minutes - 8:19 Pace

Well, I wouldn't say back. Basically I am testing it out, I don't think it's right, and neither does the doc, but he says surgery is no a sure thing, so lets try it out first. As a matter of fact, he said somewhere in the conversation, "may never be able to run, or be active for the rest of your life". Talk about sweatin bullets, holy crap, I feel like Bo Jackson, without all the fame, money, professional stage....you get the point. So, I am going to try it for a few weeks and see how it feels.

I started on the soccer field near my place, I figured grass is a good place to start. Three times around the field, to be exact. It actually felt good, all the little pains and weird feelings I have been having in my knee were not there. However, the rest of my body hurt, from inactivity, and, oh yeah, I am very out of shape, that .6 miles was not as easy as I thought it was going to be.

Either way, it did feel good to run again, I am going to head to the soccer field again tomorrow and run a mile or some, just take it easy for a couple of weeks and feel it out.

Friday, May 15, 2009

Swimmin Away

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Swimming - 20 Minutes

Swam 10 Minutes without using my legs, 5 minutes with using them but not bending them, which is not easy, and 5 more minutes without......getting a great shoulder workout, and a little cardio.

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Yoga

Yoga - 60 Minutes

Just yoga today.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Wednesday Kinda Swim

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Swimming - 20 Minutes

With my knee still hurting, I have decided to give up biking and still to swimming, yoga and abs classes. With swimming today, I also decided to use a floaty between my legs and not to kick to prevent any other sort of motion that might hurt my knee.......did quite work up the same sweat as I do when I kick....but it's all of the greater cause. The good news is my arms and shoulders got a great workout.

Friday, May 8, 2009

Morning Workout

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Upright Bike - 30 Minutes

Wow, 5 am comes early. Decided to go in before work to do abs class and bike so I could check the Riverbank run expo out after work. Man that was early. Knee felt good though.

Monday, May 4, 2009

More Biking

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Upright Biking - 40 Minutes

Another moderate pace bike today........wow I really miss running. I am feeling good on the bike, it's just not the same. My knee is a little sore again too, this is starting to make me nervous.

Saturday, May 2, 2009

Biking

Upright Bike - 60 Minutes
Abs Class - 15 Minutes

Got a good sweat going on today. Kept a pretty fast pace for 60 minutes, didn't feel anything in my knee, got some good reading in too.

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Yoga

Yoga - 60 Minutes

Yoga was great today, Connie's class is always a good stretch, and very relaxing.

Biking

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Seated Biking - 60 Minutes

Abs was great again today, I really like that class. Seated biking or an hour was good too, however, now my knee is hurting a little. Something about the seated one, I will have to stick to the upright ones from now on.

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Yoga

Upright Biking - 20 Minutes
Yoga - 60 Minutes

Biking felt good today, got a fast paced workout in before Yoga. Yoga was tough, Tuesdays are, she hits us hard, I am liking it though.

Monday, April 27, 2009

Biking

Upright Biking - 20 Minutes

More biking, I need to fix my MP3 player to help me get through the rides, and get a cushion for my bum....those seats are hard.

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Swimmin with the Fishes

Swimming - 20 Minutes

Breathing is still that part that is getting to me. Next time I will try and breath out my nose, which will help me to control my breathing.

Friday, April 24, 2009

More Biking

Upright Bike - 40 Minutes

Felt like I got a better workout on the upright bike than anything else I have done so far other than swimming, but the pool was full. Plus my knee didn't hurt after last time, so I checked it out again. It was another good sweat, but I just can't seem to get into it, maybe it will just take time.....which I've got.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Biking

Upright Bike - 30 Minutes

Decided to take a shot at the upright bike today and see how it felt. I was clipping along at a pretty good pace, felt ok, worked up a great sweat. We will see how my knee feels in the morning.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Yoga Only

The pool was full today, so I had to settle for Yoga only..........which was enough. This was a different instructor, and man did she give us a workout, I will surely be sore tomorrow.

Monday, April 20, 2009

Visit to the Ortho

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Water Running - 30 Minutes

Visited to AD the Ortho today to get my legs and feet analysed. He recommended some different shoes, and they are making me some orthodics. He says it's pretty obvious what is hurting my hamstring, and a couple of weeks in the new shoes with the orthodics should take care of it.....now if my knee would cooperate.

Abs was tough today, I think I need to take Wednesday off.

Water running, I was a bit uninspired, and beat. I helped Tom from work chop wood for 8 hours on Sunday, my body was sore.

Friday, April 17, 2009

Getting Wet

Abs Class - 15 Minutes
Water Running - 40 Minutes

It was just me and the instructor today in abs class, so no slacking. She did a number on me that's for sure.

More water running, today was more like a tempo run, fast for the entire 40 minutes, I was at about a 130 steps per minute pace.

Thursday, April 16, 2009

Swimming

Swimming - 20 Minutes
Yoga - 45 Minutes

Ah, I forgot how difficult swimming is. Different muscles all together, my shoulders were sore. Plus it's a who different kind of breathing, I am used to in, and out. With swimming, it's in..hold....hold...hold....out....tough to get used to.

Yoga was cool though, first time ever. It was relaxing, I felt good afterwards. Good stretching, good strength building, good instructor. I am surely going again.

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Water Running

Abs Class - 20 Minutes
Water Running - 40 Minutes

Figuring this water thing out more and more, today I did some interval workouts, which got me sweating quite a bit. The abs classes are killing me though..in a good way

Monday, April 13, 2009

More Water Running

Water Running - 6 Laps - 35 Minutes

Felt good today, did some water running after abs class, worked up quite a sweat at both. I think I might get the hang of this water running thing, and actually like it.

Water Running

Water Running - 30 Minutes

Now this isn't too bad. My physical therapist Erin has been talking to me about water running, so I did a little research on it. It sounds like you can keep up to 80% of you running capacity by doing this, and it is 0 impact on your knees. Well, I did it for 30 minutes today, I liked it. It was a good workout, I was sweating, I got in all the normal motion of running, and I could feel it in my legs when I was done. I'm going to see where this leads me.....next up, swimming.

Thursday, April 9, 2009

Day 2

Stationary Bike - 20 Minutes

I had a slight twinge in my knee today after using the elliptical yesterday. So I hit the stationary bike. This felt better, but I just didn't feel like I was getting that much of a workout. However, I was able to read while doing this exercise.

Wednesday, April 8, 2009

Out of the game for a bit

Elliptical - 20 Minutes

Surgeon says nothing that hurts my knee for 3 months.............WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the dent in my cartilage does not heal itself, then it's time to get sliced open.

In an effort to find activities I can do without pain, I started with the elliptical. It was pretty awkward, I think I just need to get used to it. But it seemed like the strides were too short for me.......I will give it another try next week.

Saturday, March 28, 2009

MRI Results

Knee Cartilage Lesions is what they found.......I have not done an extensive amount of research yet, but it doesn't sound good. I have an appointment with a surgeon on Tuesday...................YIKES!

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

Injury Prone??????????

3.51 Miles - 28:12 - 8:08

Well, I am done running for a little bit, maybe a lot of bit......my knee is done. The little pain that has been bugging me turned into a big pain. I took a corner, and had to stop and start walking. After about 15 minutes of walking, that became difficult and I had to stop walking for a minute. This went on for about 45 minutes, walking and stopping. After that, I was able to walk without too much pain.

It's feels like there is a point where I bend my knee that I hit a bruise, and it almost drops me. But while walking, it was just a constant pain, and I felt pressure in my knee. it felt really loose......I'm a little nervous. I am leaving for Nebraska tomorrow, back for PT on Friday, and hopefully the doc on Monday to get this taken care of.

Sunday, March 8, 2009

Rainy Day

7.35 Miles - 59:41 - 8:07 Pace

It was nice when I walked out the door today, but by the time I got to where I start running, the wind had become vicious. I started the first mile, which is uphill, in the face of a violent wind, that came and went through the first 3 miles. Once I got to Mile 4, where the wind would have been with me, it died down, and didn't help much from there on out. So it was like doing hills..both ways.

Then about mile 6, it started to rain a bit, not too bad, but it was here I realized I had miscalculated my route, and was about 3/4 of a mile farther than the 7 I needed. I didn't want to run more with the way my knee was acting up, so I started walking after 7.

At some point, it started to really down pour, I could barely stand up straight with the rain hitting me as hard as it was coming, and it was oh so cold. So I started running again, just to get home and out of it.

So the low down, hammy was ok, knee was so so......and I am really wet.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Intervals

1.45 Miles Easy - 11:58 - 8:15 Pace
1.00 Mile Interval - 6:25 - 6:25 Pace
0.50 Miles Jog/Walk - 6:02
1.00 Mile Interval - 6:32 - 6:32 Pace
0.50 Miles Jog/Walk - 6:11
1.00 Mile Interval - 6:18 - 6:18 Pace
0.50 Miles Jog/Walk - 6:42
1.43 Miles Easy - 10:31 - 7:20 Pace

Great workout today, tough, but great. Felt sluggish running to the track, but once I took off at Interval pace, I felt great. The first Interval I hit my goal of 6:25 exactly, then next one, I was a little slow. But I the third one I pushed it and beat my goal by 8 seconds.

Then on the run home I was running at a really fast pace and did not realize it. Getting poured on for the last mile and a half didn't bother me at all. I didn't notice my hammy or my knee the whole time. We will see how I feel tomorrow though.

Thursday, March 5, 2009

60 Degrees out Today

8 Miles - 1:03:42 - 7:57 Pace

Ran outside today, it was great. The weather was perfect, the sidewalks were not too damp, my hammy felt great, even with the hills. My knee is still giving me issues, I actually felt it a little this time while running, which is different.

I was able to run at a good pace though, I still believe that the treadmills at the gym are a little faster then they say they are, because the two times I have run outside this year, I was much faster than in the gym......who knows

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Long Run Tuesday

19 Miles - 2:33:15 - 8:10 Pace

Long run today, man it hurt. I felt great till about 14 miles, then the hammy kicked in, the joints started to hurt, and my breathing got difficult. I did run farther than I ever have on a treadmill, so that was good, I am hoping next week is warm enough to run outside, and maybe I can push it a little more.

Saturday, February 28, 2009

Running in a Sauna

6 Miles - 48:25 - 8:04 Pace

Ran in the Four Points Sheridon in Ann Arbor fitness room today, which was connected to the pool area, making the fitness room the hottest spot in the building, so I got a good sweat in. Only 6 miles, I was having a hard time breathing with all the humidity. It did feel good though, I think the heat and humidity helped my hammy.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

More Miles, but now with two straight legs

8 Miles - 64:40 - 8:05 Pace

First run with my heal lift from the PT, I have one leg a little shorter than the other due to all the ankle sprains I suffered playing basketball. So that is causing a lot of the strain on my hammy. Felt a little weird, but got used to it. We'll see.

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Nobody puts Baby in a Corner

8 Miles - 64:40 - 8:05 Pace

I got the last treadmill in the joint today, way in the corner. Good run, legs felt good lungs felt good.

Makin up for SUnday

7 Miles - 57:30 - 8:10 Pace

Missed running on Sunday, so I am making up for it today, which isn't a big deal because I don't have any long or tempo runs this week, so running a few days in a row won't hurt me. Felt good, the hammy was ok, this little pain in my knee was there for a bit, it's the same one that hurts when I twist it funny while walking or standing. Feels like I am pinching a nerve.

Tempo Satruday

1 Mile - 8:12 - 8:12 Pace
6 Miles - 41:54 - 6:59 Pace

This one was painful today, not injury painful, just a hard one too complete, which makes me a little nervous. I think I should be breezing through these, and running farther in the tempos than I am.....but I guess that is why I am training, to get better. I know that weekends are my worst days for running, which is why I moved the long runs to Tuesday, but it is hurting my Tempo runs. I guess I could run long and Monday, and run Tempos on Friday's..........well, if I was ever to travel anywhere for work, that would screw up the Monday night run, and if I traveled for personal, that would screw up the Friday night run......so much for that idea.

Long Run

18 Miles - 2:29:01 - 8:19 Pace

Was supposed to get in 20 today, just couldn't get there on the treadmill though. This is the longest I have run on the treadmill, and I am still on pace with my training, I just like to be a little ahead at all times. Nothing felt bad, I just was done, actually I thought I was done around 11 miles.

Off to the Physical Therapist tomorrow.

Not quote what I was hoping for

8 Miles - 64:45 - 8:10 Pace

Supposed to run 20 miles today but my legs were really tired for some reason, so I only ran 8. I will do 20 on Thursday to make up for it. Not sure what the tired legs were all about, might be from the Tempo run on Saturday, might be that I haven't eaten enough since the Tempo runs, who knows, Thursday will be a better day.

Sunday Kind of Run

7 Miles - 56:54 - 8:10

Easy run today, was watching a few good movies, Blue Streak, and Notting Hill, made the time go quickly. Lets felt good, hammy a little sore, I'll be seeing the doctor tomorrow for that. Hopping it is going to warm up enough Tuesday for me to run outside for my 20....but I'm not holding my breath.

Tempo Satruday

1 Miles - 8:15 - 8:15 Pace
5 Miles - 34:45 - 6:53 Pace

Supposed to run 7 total miles today, but after the Tempo portion, I didn't have anything left. The good news is, my hammy didn't bother me, I still have an appointment on Monday, but good to know. My lungs we a little challenged today, I think I was out too late last night and had a few too many, but I got the important miles in, so that's what counts.

Little Sore

6 Miles - 49:42 - 8:12 Pace

I was a little sore when I started running today, even after 5 games of warm-up ping pong. I could just feel it in my joints, partially from the road, partially from the 18 miles at a fast pace. I started feeling better mile 3 though, and by the end, I felt pretty good.

Back to the HIlls

18 Miles - 2:25:05 - 8:03 Pace

It was 60 degrees today! So, I decided to run outside. The sidewalks weren't too bad, a few unavoidable puddle, I did get splashed a few times by cars passing by. All in all a good run, the hills were something I hadn't tackled in a while, so the up hills hurt my muscles, and the downhills hurt my joints. I did run it at a fast pace though, I was happy with that.

The big thing that has got me worried is my hamstring. I thought with all the stretching I have been doing, I had taken care of it. But today, it owned the last 3 miles on the run. Not sure if it was the hills, or the intensity, but this is the worst it has felt since the marathon attempt......I think I need to go and see someone.

Outdoor Running

6.5 Miles - 52:33 - 8:05 Pace

Tami and I ran outdoors today in TC, it was beautiful out, the sun was shining, it was around 35 degrees, felt good to get back on the pavement. We were at about a 8:39 pace through 3.5 miles, then Tami stopped off to use the restroom and told me to press on, so I picked it up a little, and finished with an 8:05 pace, so I was cruising at about 7:35 for the last 2.5 miles. Felt good, a little slippery, but it was nice to be outdoors.

Speed Workout

1.00 Mile - 8:21 - 8:21 Pace
1.00 Mile - 6:25 - 6:25 Pace
0.50 Miles - 4:10 - 8:20 Pace
1.00 Mile - 6:25 - 6:25 Pace
0.50 Miles - 4:10 - 8:20 Pace
0.50 Miles - 3:13 - 6:26 Pace
1.00 Mile - 8:21 - 8:21 Pace

First speed workout of the year today, on a new treadmill up in Traverse City. It actually was a pretty good run, it hurt, but it was good. The speeds on this treadmill seemed to be pretty close to the ones I am used to being on. I am a little sore after that one, just muscle sore, haven't run that fast in ages.

Ahhh, home sweet treadmill

16 Miles - 2:12:14 - 8:20 Pace

Great run today, real pick me up after the terrible run I had in NC. Felt good, I was a little sore from running up the incline on the NC treadmill, but I made it through, this is the longest I have run on the treadmill, so I was feeling good about that. First speed workout in ages is up next, I will be in Traverse City, so we will see how this goes

Thye call this a fitness room????

3.5 Miles - 28:41 - 8:21

Not a good day, in fact, it was a pitiful day. I got onto this treadmill in North Carolina, which was stuck at a 4 degree incline, and the speeds kept varying, and the buttons didn't work, and it was about 85 degrees in the room, and it was facing a wall......bottom line, I got 3.5 out of the 16 miles.......yuck.

Felt Good today

7 Miles - 57:44 - 8:15 Pace

Easy run today, didn't feel any effects from my first Tempo run yesterday....next up, 16 Miles, the longest I have ever run on a treadmill, and I will be doing it in a different state, on a treadmill I have never been on.

First Tempo Run for the Marathon

1 Miles - 8:15 - 8:15 Pace
4 Miles - 27:16 - 6:49 Pace
0.5 Miles - 4:08 - 8:15 Pace

This is the fastest I have run in a long time, probably since September. Felt awkward at first, but once I got into, it didn't go too bad. Once I slowed down though for the cool down, I struggled a little, so I only got 5.5 in today, and not 6.

Easy Run

6 Miles - 49:40 - 8:19 Pace

Easy run today after Tuesdays long run. Felt ok, I was in a hotel in New York, and it was attached to the pool, and really humid, so a little more sweat than usual, but all in all good.

Day 1 of Novi Marathon Training

14 Miles - 1:56:32 - 8:20 Pace

Ran and extra 2 miles today because the training calls for my longest run to be 20 miles, and I want to do at least 22. Plus I have been running 14-15 on a regular basis, so it's not a big deal to start there. I did increase the treadmill speed though from 7.1 to 7.2, which doesn't seem like a lot, but my left knee was hurting afterwards, and I felt a little weak towards the end even though I upped the pace over the last 3 miles. I still think the treadmill is faster than the pace indicates.

All in all a good day one though, got a good stretch in afterwards, and some abs, and downed a big chocolate milk. We will see how my legs feel on Thursday, when I will be running out in New York.

Last 6 before taining begins

6 Miles - 49:30 - 8:13 Pace

Last 6 Miles before training for the Novi Marathon begins. Didn't feel good again today, but I have been sluggish all week. I think a day of rest and some extra sleep will get me back in the groove.

Morning Run

6 Miles - 49:34 - 8:13 Pace

Morning runs are tough for me, wish I could figure out why, and how to fix it. Just 6 miles today, wasn't hard, just didn't feel good, like most morning runs.

Long Run Today....Out of No Where

15 Miles - 2:03:32 - 8:13

Went to the gym after working a bit today and planned on running 6.....8 if I as feeling good. I didn't feel good though, I felt great, and just kept on running. It helped that there was a great playoff game on between the Cards and Eagles, but I hadn't eaten much, some grapes and a Slim Fast...all day, hadn't stretched much. I guess you just never know, but that is really good considering I may not get to run much this week with a lot of late days with work, and Tami coming into town.

One thing that did come up though, my second toe on my left foot is really hurting on the end and the nail, I hope I don't start getting those toes where the nails fall off, I have been lucky thus far. I think it is just the treadmill running.

Long Run Today

15 Miles - 2:03:13 - 8:14 Pace

Felt really good again today, I was thoughts of going longer than 15, but I kinda fell apart around 14, so decided to hold at 15. Just don't know if I am going to break that barrier on the treadmill. Anywho, VH1 had the top 100 Hip Hop songs of all time on, so that was great, kept me entertained the whole time, I think that is the key, on good long days, there is something good on to watch.

Going to try to squeeze as much running I can in this week, but I will be working lots of hours, going for back to back 80's ........not as impressive as it first sounded, so, hopefully I'll be back on the mill Friday.

Back at it

7 Miles - 57:30 - 8:13 Pace

Again, it's amazing how much things change over a week. My legs were tired today. Plus I stepped the speed on the treadmill up from 7.1 MPH to 7.3 MPH, this is the supposed speed for my 8:13 minute miles, feels way too fast though. I surely needed to stretch more while I was in Nebraska, too much work, not enough play :-)

Tempo Run

1 Mile - 8:13
1 Mile - 7:19
1 Mile - 7:09
1 Mile - 6:59
1 Mile - 6:40
0.5 Miles - 4:07

Today being my last day running for a week, I decided to do a little Tempo Run, it's been a while. I have only done a Tempo run one other time on the treadmill, and I didn't like it at all. Today wasn't awful though, it felt good, again, I felt like I was running way faster than the MPH conversion says I was, but that's the price I pay for warmth I guess. Well, not it's off to Nebraska, and a week off of running for my legs.

Ouch

4 Miles - 33:01 - 8:15 Pace

Ouch I am sore today, usually don't run the day after a long run. Didn't eat beforehand either, that didn't help. Lots going on at the gym today though, so there were things to entertain during the run.

Gotta get rid of this throat thing

14 Miles - 115:25 - 8:21 Pace

Again, I felt good today, the belt was moving smoothly under my feet, the GU was going down well.......not much on TV though. I was good until about mile 12, it was getting hard for me to breath, I think it's this throat thing I have going on. My body felt ok, but I couldn't get the air to it. So I settled for 14 Miles, I had visions of 20 around mile 10.......oops.

1st Run of the Year

4 Miles - 33:03 - 8:16 Pace

Wasn't planning on running today, but I felt good, and wanted to get a few in on the first day of the year. Was a little sore at the start, but felt good once I got into it. My shoulders were tired because today was a lifting day, and that's what I worked out with.
